I recently interviewed (I'm a news writer) a black retired NYPD detective who led a special unit that only investigated rappers and the rap music industry. He used to get accused all the time, he said, of racial profiling. The rappers, he said, would ask him why he didn't put pressure on country and rock artists and their entourages. His answer? He was investigating criminal activity in the rap world. That most of them happened to black was incidental to the musical genre. So quit whining. Plus, you don't read/hear about the entourages of country and rock artists having shootouts in public.
It is ironic. I'm young and black, and I know profiling exists. I've been pulled over for bogus reasons. And some of my best friends are cops who say they've seen it happen under their noses.
But there's a difference between profiling and pursuing the obvious.

I agree. Profiling is there, and most likely always will be. And I think that utilizing behavioral patterns (like profiling maybe?) is a very useful tool that a many people have spent a good many hours developing.
Funny how someone who KNOWS they're doing something wrong always tries to displace the blame by blaming it on profiling rather than the obvious.
