Civics

So I went here and took a civics quiz, which:

[...]thirty-three questions, many drawn from U.S. naturalization exams and U.S. Department of Education high school progress tests (NAEP).
[...]
I ain't proud of my score (69.70%, or 23 out of 33 - I suck), but it is what it is.
What's interesting - but in my eyes not surprising, is that the politicians we elect on the average know less than the average citizen.

Anyway, it only takes 5 or 10 minutes, so give it a whirl and let me know how you do.

Let's See Now. Play With Fire, And You Might Get Burned

Playboy Mansion at center of sexual assault claim

Thu Aug 9, 6:14 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Police Dept. said on Wednesday it was investigating an allegation of sexual assault at the Playboy Mansion, the famed site of unabashed hedonism for more than 30 years.
[..]
Is this supposed to surprise us? Is it oddness? Has it possibly happened before and never been reported?

Come the fuck on. You're a hot female all drunked up and high, waltzing around in jammies with a bunch of drunk and high horn-dog guys in the room, and you expect to not get propositioned or felt up? Just how fucking stupid are you?

Now I ain't saying anyone deserves unwilling advances and such, I'm just saying that if you put yourself in certain situations, don't be surprised if you get what you ask for.

A Shout Out

This post will stay on top for several days, so cruise on down yonder for updates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Big 'D' - a good friend of mine in the Air Force - is on his way to Afghanistan today.
Big apology 'D', I thought you were leaving next Wednesday and was going to give you a verbal holler before you took off. Hopefully, this is second best, since I know you pop in here now and then.
Anyway, my best wishes to you and your family (wife and son) while you're away.
Note: If you happen to see a pale looking guy around 6'6" tall, sporting a skunk-striped beard with a bedsheet wrapped around his head and walking with a cane, send him to Allah for me, will you? And the more pieces Allah has to gather up and puzzle back together, the better.
Aaahhhh...
So let me set the scene for you here.
It's a sunny March day, temperature around 70 degrees. Enough breeze to circulate the most wonderful scent of the blossoming plums around the yard,
mixed with the savoryaroma of the grill
getting ready for the burgers, brats and sausages.
Next, you throw one of these
(Arturo Fuente) into the mix,
and maybe a couple of these
chilled to perfection on ice.
Mix it all together with family and friends, and you have what we like to call out here a 'Sunday afternoon'.
Wish you could have been there.
[cough] Bullshit [cough]
So I get an email yesterday from a blogger I used to frequent, but who writes so infrequently that I don't visit there much any more.
That's okay though, this blogger is a bit too hippy-liberal anyway. Every time this blogger stops by here, I get some flaming remark about my narrow mindedness or wrongedness.
Anyway, here is the email which was forwarded to XXXXXXX by someone else:
Dear XXXXXXX,
On March 21st, I'll hand-deliver your message to Washington when I testify at Congressional hearings on the climate crisis.
Can you commit to finding 10 friends to send a message to Congress demanding immediate action?
Ask them to visit:
http://algore.com/cards.html
Here is my reply:
Bah!
I hope AlGore takes his phony phukking Oscar off his over sized mantle, caresses it gently with vaseline, and shoves it up his ass.
Then, I hope he strolls out of his oversized, fully electrified mansion to his oversized, polluting SUV and drives it to his private jet - which he is constantly flying around the country to promote his obsession - (whilst emitting even more of those hydrocarbons), and flies it straight to hell. Hopefully fully loaded with his DVDs.
I'll not deny the globe is warming. Big deal. Maybe it is warmer this year than last year.
But is it warmer then it was 1,000 years ago at this time? 10,000? 100,000?
No one knows. Did we cause it? Bullshit. One volcano eruption causes more shit to fly around than we mortals could cause in a hundred years or more.
I say fuck it. Let our children figure it out. They need a challenge anyway.
Stories Away From The Mainstream
Word from Iraq:
The following e-mail was sent by 1st Lt. Robert Grabowski of the U.S. Marine Corps to his mother Denise Grabowski in Jeannette. Robert, 25, grew up in Jeannette and has been training the Iraqi army since Thanksgiving 2006.
This may be a little sappy, but I just wanted to show a side of this war that you don't see on the news.
Today I was sitting and talking with an old Iraqi lieutenant colonel. He is very smart and speaks really good English, so sometimes I just stop by his office to shoot the breeze. Somehow we got on the topic of patriotism and what it takes to be dedicated to a cause.
He began describing to me how dangerous his home in Baghdad was. He told me that he couldn't even go outside his house without fearing for his life. He is raising a family in a city that is torn by war and his neighborhood is particularly dangerous, especially for an Iraqi army officer.
Then he went on to say that he was receiving death-threat text messages on his cell phone that basically said: "Quit the army or we will kill you."
The Iraqi colonel's response was one of the most amazing things that I've experienced so far over here. He said to me, "I don' t care if they kill me. I know that I am doing the right thing and I know I am a good man. If they kill me I know that God will be on my side and that is all that matters."
He went on to say the only thing he would be sad about if they kill him would be his family being without a husband/father. There were tears in his eyes. That is courage.
This country is full of people just like this colonel. There are privates in the Iraqi army who go without food, pay or a warm or dry place to sleep just to serve their country. Not to mention that death is around every corner for the average Iraqi soldier. All that the people of this country want is a peaceful home in which to raise a family, just like us. They are true patriots who deserve freedom and peace a hell of a lot more than half of the people in the U.S.
Don't let the media fool you. There are good people in this country.
Robert Grabowski
Iraq
I just thought you should know.
