The Quiet Life

I haven't been reading all my favorite blogs, or posting my boring bits lately. For this I apologize.

Trouble is, my company just installed internet monitoring shit so I can't keep up on things during the day like I used to be able to. I don't want them to think I'm a slacker. I obviously get my work done, but I must set an example and all that shit.

So as it is now, I'm typing this with the internet disconnected, using my fucking cool cell phone (EVO) as a tether. I love gadgets. It's not quite as fast of a connection as the 100mb connection at my workplace, but it does quite nicely.

So don't feel bad if I don't come visit as often as I used to, I'll pop in when I can.

Fucking Cool

If you're a fan of photography - well, not really photography, more like neat-o pictures in general, do yourself a favor and take a look at these:
Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943
I was simply mesmerized for a solid 30 minutes.

There are some other links at the bottom of "From the Archive: American Cities Pre-1950" and "Captured: The Pacific and Adjacent Theaters in WWII".
I'm going to take a look at them as soon as I get a chance.

Would I Go?

Space exploration volunteers wanted (The catch? It's a one-way ticket)

[...]
The next generation of astronauts may hurtle through the cosmos for years or decades on a mission to explore distant planets and stars – and never return.
[...]
Damn tootin' I would go. It would fucking cool to go somewhere off in space and do some exploring, see the shit first-hand and close up.

You wouldn't be coming back to tell stories in person, but big deal. What with chats, email, twitter, blogs, journals, blah blah blah - how many people do you 'talk' to each day without seeing them face to face?

U.S. has high confidence it hit satellite fuel tank
2 hours, 5 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon said on Thursday it had "a high degree of confidence" that a Navy missile hit the toxic fuel tank of a disabled U.S. spy satellite, which posed a potential threat if it struck land on reentry.
[...]
If nothing else, we showed the rest of the world that we can hit a target roughly 130 miles in the air traveling at 17,000 miles per hour.

Impressive if you ask me.

Bonus points: What is the meaning of the picture then?

Sofa King Cool

I've been using Google Earth for a year or two now and enjoy the hell out of it. If you've never used it, you should give it a try. Of course, you shouldn't bother if you're using dial-up as it is quite the bandwidth hog.

For those not familiar with it, it is an interactive tour of the entire planet composed of satellite images, some of which have extremely good resolution, and some not so much.

Google recently updated it though, to point the other direction. Toward the sky. You can now use it to tour the stars! Planets, galaxies, nebulae, all sorts of shit.

Here's a link to get it:

GO! What are you waiting for!?

Birkhead is father of Anna Nicole's baby
Tue Apr 10, 5:27 PM ET

NASSAU (Reuters) - A former boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, was identified on Tuesday as the father of Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith's 7-month-old daughter after DNA test results were released by a Bahamas court.
[...]
Nice to know that's settled.

So, hey Dickhead er, Birkhead. How does it make you feel to know there were that many other possibles? Does it make you feel good to know that the ho' you were soaking your dick in was getting drilled by that many other nice gents?
Luck y you. Your chamber happened to contain the lucky bullet.

A high five goes out to you there bro. Make that a double.

This Day In History

Happy Friggin' B'day Al:
1879 : ALBERT EINSTEIN BORN:

On March 14, 1879, Albert Einstein is born, the son of a Jewish
electrical engineer in Ulm, Germany. Einstein's theories of special
and general relativity drastically altered man's view of the universe,
and his work in particle and energy theory helped make possible

Spiffy Pic

Here's the story:
This image provided by NASA and taken by the New Horizons Long Range Reconnaissance Imager shows a 4-millisecond exposure of Jupiter and two of its moons on January 17, 2007.
The spacecraft was 68.5 million kilometers (42.5 million miles) from Jupiter, closing in on the giant planet at 41,500 miles (66,790 kilometers) per hour.
The volcanic moon Io is the closest planet to the right of Jupiter; the icy moon Ganymede is to Io's right.
The shadows of each satellite are visible atop Jupiter's clouds; Ganymede's shadow is draped over Jupiter's northwestern limb. (AP Photo/NASA)
