This Day in History

From HistoryChannel.com:

Pear Harbor Day
1941 "A date which will live in infamy"

On this day, in an early-morning sneak attack, Japanese warplanes bomb the U.S. naval base at Oahu Island's Pearl Harbor-and the United States enters World War II.

1983 First execution by lethal injection

The first execution by lethal injection takes place at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Charles Brooks, Jr., convicted of murdering an auto mechanic, received an intravenous injection of sodium pentathol, the barbiturate that is known as a "truth serum" when administered in lesser doses.

Sneak atacks...planes....entering a war......why does this sound familiar?

A day or so after 9/11 I remember asking my parents if they were as frightened then as I found myself in those first days afterwards. The answer was yes, and probably even more scary than we can imagine, in light of how THAT turned out. Because all of our fathers went off to war.

Strange, though, that I saw nothing at all on the morning news today about it.
