Nearly All Sodas Sales to Schools to End:WTF? Here's a thought. How about you parents instead, get your kids to put down the game boy, get off their fat asses and go outside to play ball or ride a bike. Something.

NEW YORK - The nation's largest beverage distributors have agreed to halt nearly all soda sales to public schools, according to a deal announced Wednesday by the William J. Clinton Foundation.
Then, when they come back in the house, cook them a healthy meal instead of stopping at McDonalds on the way home or ordering pizza. If they get healthy meals at the house, a can of soda pop ain't going to put them over the top.
You parents have no one to blame for fat kids but your own damn selves. The soda manufacturing companies and the school district shouldn't have to be regulated due to your inadequacies.

I don't think this is an obesity issue. My kids are all active and trim, but I still don't allow soda. Well, it's not FORBIDDEN, and they drink it at cook-outs and at the movies... but you won't find any 2 litres in my fridge.
The sugar contained in soda pop impedes the learning process. It causes insulin levels to spike and crash and it's hard to learn when you're all hyped up, adn equally hard when you're coming down.
I agree with you on the game-boy, healthy diet issue... and a single can of pop is not going to make a kid fat or give them ADD... but by providing such vending machines, soda consumption all but encouraged.
However, vending machines are a great way for schools to earn the extra money they claim to need so desperately. But there is no reason those machines can't be stocked with healthier choices like milk, whole fruits, cheese sticks and granola bars.
(I know that kids can get fat eating these types of foods in excess... but my objections aren't rooted in the obesity arguement... I'm just concerned about allowing children such easy access to a substance that can have detrimental effects they can't appreciate.)
True. It's not just about being fat.
And I agree, put juice, water, rail mix, whatever in them. Let them earn some money for the school.
But why tell soda manufacturers they can't sell to the school? Parents should be on the school boards' ass to have them put good stuff in there.
