Nine states sue Bush over fuel efficiency

Wed May 3, 1:25 AM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Nine states have sued the administration of
President George W. Bush for lenient automotive fuel economy standards that they say worsen an energy crunch and contribute to air pollution and climate change.

BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH !!!! ........ Yeah. That'll work.

Some lawyer thinking he or she could make a shitload of money planted an idea into some pea-brained rocket surgeon's head, now we have this.
Thanks asshole. Let's waste more taxpayer money on government court costs now.

Do you have an alternative solution? Is there a better way to call attention to this matter... which is completely valid, by the way.

These fuckers only understand money. And they're not going to give a second thought to the consequences until they are hte ones getting hit in the pocketbook.

I'm not sure a lawsuit is the way to go... by the time a ruling is delivered the key players will all have died of old age! But doing nothing and just bitching about gas prices hasn't gotten us very far now has it?

Dubya was on the tv this am. Something about measures to increase supply. I was looking for earthquake news so I didn't pay much attention.

According to AAA, the US demand for oil is *down* from last year.

Oh, it's a valid matter, but sue dubya? What a pile of shit.
He isn't solely responsible for the price of gas. In fact, no one is singularly responsible for the price of gas.
We as consumers create the demand, and as mark stated in another forum, investors pad the prices to make their profits. And why not? They're going to get as much money out of it as they can. After all, that's why they do it.
People will commute an hour, 2 hours or more for cheaper housing. So they're going to have to keep buying gas to get to work.

I heard Dubya was going to divert the 'national reserve' to increase the current supply. Maybe that's what he was talking about.

Here's a little piece of interesting information, from a friend of mine who's a chemical engineer. Hopefully one of your readers can verify this also, so I feel better about trying it.

There is a chemical that is used for mothballs called napthalene. Apparently it is also used by petroleum companies as a cleaning additive in higher grade fuels. My friend has been putting half a box of mothballs in his fuel tank on every fill for 2 weeks, and is claiming an increase in fuel economy from 29 to 40 MPG. I trust his data, but wonder if there's a risk to his motor. I'd love some verification and other data on this. I know a google search brings up a ton of info, but most of it is no good.

Input?

I haven't heard of such a thing, but I'm not going to doubt that it would work until I hear it won't. I've heard of several unknown additives that people have put in their gas for various benefits. Copper sulfate being one. It supposedly coats engine parts with a copper coating reducing carbon buildup and friction. But that is another one I haven't tried.

The biggest downside to additives that I know of, is some change the structure of fuel to make it more corrosive to rubber, neoprene, latex or whatever else gaskets and seals can be made out of, causing them to decay much faster.

But I would beinterested to see if it actually helped without being damaging.
