U.S. reporters freed from North Korea return homeSo Slick Willy is back in the news. Finished his mission to North Korea to get the reporters out of the clutches of Lil Kim. Makes me wonder what exactly it was he promised the crazy fucker in order to get them freed. Maybe sat down and had a couple beers like they do at the White House when you're dealing with friends, cops and racial tensions?
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Two American journalists freed by North Korea after months of detention returned home to a tearful family reunion on Wednesday accompanied by former President Bill Clinton, who secured their release in a meeting with the reclusive state's leader Kim Jong-il.

Health officials to military: Ban smokingI have nothing positive to say about smoking in the military, or smoking in general. However, it's a personal choice, and once again, assholes are making personal choice decisions for the general public instead of allowing people the freedom to make their own decisions.

Medical experts say they have a solution for the military’s increasing smoking rates:
Ban it.
And not just in basic training — stop selling cigarettes and chewing tobacco on post, stop with the discounts at the PX, don’t allow it in hospitals, and come up with a deadline when everyone should be smoke-free.

Chimp in Conn. attack had unusual bond with ownerYeah, I wonder what else she did with "Travis" when no one was around.
STAMFORD, Conn. – Travis the chimpanzee's relationship with his owner was closer than those of some married couples.
Sandra Herold gave him the finest food, and wine in long-stemmed glasses. They took baths together and cuddled in the bed they shared. Travis brushed the lonely widow's hair each night and pined for her when she was away.
If she left the house alone, Travis would give her a kiss.

Texas senator blocks Clinton's state confirmationHey. Every little bit helps.
WASHINGTON – The confirmation of Hillary Rodham Clinton to be secretary of state will be held up for at least a day due to the objection of a single senator. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he wanted "a full and open debate and an up-or-down vote on Sen. Clinton's nomination."

Clinton Lie Kills Her Credibility on Trade PolicyWell, no fucking shit.
[...]
Now that we know from official records of her time as First Lady that Clinton was the featured speaker at a closed-door session where 120 women opinion leaders were hectored to pressure their congressional representatives to approve NAFTA; now that we know from ABC News reporting on the session that "her remarks were totally pro-NAFTA" and that "there was no equivocation for her support for NAFTA at the time;" now that we have these details confirmed, what should we make of Clinton's campaign claim that she was never comfortable with the militant free-trade agenda that has cost the United States hundreds of thousands of union jobs, that has idled entire industries, that has saddled this country with record trade deficits, undermined the security of working families in the US and abroad, and has forced Mexican farmers off their land into an economic refugee status that ultimately forces them to cross the Rio Grande River in search of work?
As she campaigns now, Clinton says, "I have been a critic of NAFTA from the very beginning."
But the White House records confirm that this is not true.
Her statement is, to be precise, a lie.
[...]
And we must all now recognize that when Hillary Clinton speaks about trade policy, she begins with a lie so blatant--that she's been "a critic of NAFTA from the very beginning"--that everything else she says must be viewed as suspect.

Right to Health Care?Don't just say doctors here. Add to the list hospitals, nurses, drug companies, ambulance companies, pharmacists, ... you get the picture. Everyone in the medical field would have to work so many hours a week - put in their free time - in order to provide care to people who can't or won't buy insurance.
The assertion that everyone has an absolute right to health care leaves unanswered the question: "Who will pay?" The assumption is that taxpayers will. Suppose a different answer were suggested. Since most doctors make a comfortable living, suppose the government were to require physicians, as a condition of practicing medicine, to provide health care to the poor at no charge.
This would amount to forced labor and members of the American Medical Association would be rightly horrified at the prospect. Yet requiring taxpayers to foot the bill for the poor is no different than forcing physicians to work without pay. Forced labor spread out over a large population and disguised through a system of taxation is still forced labor.
Philosopher Ayn Rand argued that the purpose of an individual's life is not to serve God, the government or one's neighbor. Rather, the purpose of life is one's own happiness, which is secured through productive achievement and by engaging in voluntary, mutually-beneficial relationships with others. A necessary condition for the pursuit of happiness is the recognition and protection of the right to property:
The right to life is the source of all rights--and the right to property is their only implementation. Without property rights, no other rights are possible. Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, the man who has no right to the product of his effort has no means to sustain his life. The man who produces while others dispose of his product, is a slave.

Where Did The White Man Go Wrong?Well, he does have a point.
Indian Chief, "Two Eagles," was asked by a white government official, "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"
The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied. "When white man find land, Indians running it. No taxes, No debt, Plenty buffalo, Plenty beaver, Clean Water; Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; All night having sex."
Then the chief leaned back and smiled. "Only white man dumb enough to think he can improve system like that.
